As the Machine Shop and Fabrication Lead, you will be responsible for manufacturing production and custom parts, tools and jigs and short run prototypes.

You will use various manual, powered and CNC machine tools to support production, engineering and new product development.

Your job duties will include:

- Leading and supervising machine shop team members and employees
- Independently setting-up and operating various model shop machines and related equipment [e.g. indicating, blocking and aligning stock distribution]
- Setting-up and adjusting machine controls according to product specifications
- Reading and interpreting schematics, assembly drawings, data sheets and process sheets
- Performing sample and pilot builds, testing fixtures and troubleshooting assemblies
- Manufacturing production parts to support orders
- Building prototypes of new products
- Modifying existing products
- Building new tools and fixtures
- Repairing existing tools and fixtures
- Observing machine operations to detect problems/issues, taking corrective action as necessary
- Performing inspections, measurements and quality control functions
- Using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment in the performance of measurement and quality control functions
- Troubleshooting and debugging issues and performing preventative maintenance on shop equipment
- Making recommendations to improve quality, minimize cost and maximize process efficiency and safety
- Performing other duties as necessary

An ideal candidate profile will include the following experience:

- At least five years of machining and fabrication experience
- Experience using manual, automated and CNC machine shop and sheet metal fabrication equipment [lathe, mill, drill press, saw, grinder, press brake, pneumatic tools and hand tools]
- Previous experience working on production runs, short runs and prototype parts

In addition to the following qualifications:

- Knowledge of processes used for cutting, drilling, milling, forming, turning, grinding and threading
- Knowledge of what tooling and lubricants need to be used for certain types of materials
- Knowledge of speeds and feeds for different types of tooling
- Knowledge of right angle trigonometry to figure out angles
- The ability to read and understand part and assembly drawings, prints, sketches, diagrams, models and work instructions
- Can properly use rulers, calipers, micrometers and other measurement instruments
- An understanding of CNC programming and basic knowledge of function codes
- Knowledge of CAD software
- Overall computer proficiency
- The ability to lead, guide and mentor others
- Basic mechanical and electric safety training
- The willingness and ability to work overtime as necessary
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Accuracy and attention-to-detail in your work
- The ability to create a positive and productive team dynamic
- Prioritization skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
